Being overweight and unhealthy can lead to being a major factor in becoming depressed, but equally being in a poor state of mind can cause you to spiral out of shape as well.

In this week's edition of The Man Shake Video Blog, Adam provides some tips to get you in the best position mentally to be in good spirits physically too.

So here are the key steps - 

  • Wake up and be grateful for what you have. Like Adam, start a gratitude journal, where you write down each day what you were thankful for.
  • Get moving. You don't need to spend hours in the gym, even a walk is great for your state of mind. A walk can help you reflect on your day and give you time to de-stress.
  • Look after your gut health. Your stomach creates hormornes which control your mood. Foods with good fats like fish and unsalted nuts as well as foods with pro-biotics like yogurt are great for gut health.
  • Have a beer with your mates. Socialising with the lads over a couple of schooeys has been proven to have an overall positive effect on men's health. It relieves stress which puts massive strain on your body and also helps us release serotonin - the happy hormone.
