Float like a butterfly sting like a bee

I better than anyone know what a weekend means to a weight loss goal or lifestyle change. The distractions, the interruptions, and the temptations are a force to be reckoned with and resisting them may feel like a fight against an unbeatable opponent.

While there is no sure way to eliminate all temptations we thought it might be helpful to provide you with some helpful tips on your best defence against cravings before you jump into the ring (the weekend).

  • Don’t skip meals

It might seem like a good idea at the time, it might even be accidental but try not to let it happen. If you skip a meal and your body is hungry enough, the brain is smart and will force your body into starvation mode and will find a high source of energy to get you through the day or next couple of hours slowing down your metabolism to conserve energy and in turn burn muscle fuel. Needless to say, this is all counterproductive to weight loss goals. If you can’t have a full sit down meal, make sure you have snacks available.

  • Once you pop you can’t stop. Seriously

If you reach for a snack, make sure it is something healthy. The famous chip brand was not kidding, having just a small portion of any junk food is a lot harder than resisting it all together.

  • The tag team: the right food at the right time

It may be a little tough to define what really is the right food to consume at which time but as a guideline:

Eat your breakfast at least 30 minutes after you wake up to allow your body the chance to wake up and burn calories throughout the day. Your breakfast should be high in protein everyday, someone that eats a high protein breakfast will consumer 25% less in a day than someone who doesn’t.

Lunch should be kept relatively light but still high in protein, something like a salad or wrap with grilled chicken or tuna is a great option.

I recommend eating a high-in-protein dinner at least 3 hours before you go to bed to allow your body time to digest and relax before it shuts down completely while you sleep.

  • Eat more food from the fridge

Food found in a pantry more times than not is food that can last months, even years which means a lot of preservatives. If you’re hungry, reach inside the fridge instead of the pantry where you’re more likely to find healthier options.

Temptation is a serious contender for anyone that gets in the ring with her; just remember small jabs are better than taking all the hits yourself. Enjoy the weekend but keep your goals in sight.
